Semi Truck Fuel Economy|AMSOI Diewel OilIncrease Semi Truck Fuel Economy

It seems most oil companies claim to be able to increase semi truck fuel economy in most any type of truck.  Few companies can prove their claims with bona-fide real-life, real-world fleet studies.  AMSOIL Inc, a true-blood American company, is one business that has done just that.

AMSOIL Proves Ability To Increase Semi Truck Fuel Economy

Performing real-world fleet studies takes a lot of time, effort and money.  It is difficult to keep the study equal between the test vehicles so that a true apples-to-apples comparison can be made.  Driving conditions, driver habits, truck loading and weather conditions are all things that can affect and skew the outcome.

Independent Testing Critical For Semi Truck Fuel Economy Testing

One major expense is using a test facility that is unbiased and qualified to perform the research.  Minimizing lubricant bias is essential in determining a real increase in semi truck fuel economy.  In AMSOIL’s study, Auburn University’s Program for Advanced Vehicle Evaluation (PAVE) was employed to determine if there was a verifiable stop-n-go city driving fuel economy increase.

The testing was designed to replicate real world city conditions.  Identical semi-trucks were used with similar mileage and mechanical condition.  The control vehicle was tested using conventional petroleum products.  The test vehicle was equipped with AMSOIL synthetic 5W-40 premium synthetic diesel oil.  Each truck pulled identical trailers loaded with concrete weights totaling 76,000 pounds. Each truck started with the same quantity #2 diesel fuel.

The results revealed that switching from conventional petroleum engine oil to AMSOIL 5W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil resulted in a semi truck fuel economy improvement of 2.38% in city driving conditions.  When the drivetrain fluids (transmission and front and rear differentials) the fuel saving increased to 3.15%.  In a highway driving conditions test the improvement in fuel mileage increased to 6.54% when using AMSOIL synthetic fluids over petroleum oils.

The fuel economy benefits demonstrated a significant cost savings for a variety of businesses and municipalities that use diesel applications including:

  • Beverage distributors
  • Utility companies
  • Fuel oil & natural gas proiders
  • Road maintenance fleets
  • Delivery services
  • Refuse hauling companies
